CLAUDIA M. PRATT creates "three dimensional" experiences for museum visitors through public programs and exhibits. Developing and producing more than 25 exhibits and over 65 public programs during her ten years in the museum field, she has found that her diverse background and interests are well suited for the career path she chose. Originally from Gardner, North Dakota, Pratt has a Bachelor of Interior Architecture from KSU and a Master of Arts in Folk Studies with emphases in historic preservation and cultural conservation from Western Kentucky University. Her undergraduate education included a semester studying and an additional year working at Denmark's International Study Program in Copenhagen. She served as president of the Pre-Design Club, participated in Design Council, was the 1987 Interior Architecture Student Service Award recipient, and was a member of Tau Sigma Delta Architecture Honor Society at KSU. After graduation, Pratt worked as exhibits designer and program coordinator for the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center in Moorhead, Minnesota. Since June of 1994, she has been the outreach programs coordinator in the Education and Interpretation Division at the State Historical Society of North Dakota in Bismarck where her responsibilities include development and implementation of interpretive programs at six state historic sites and one regional museum. She has taught classes in museum work and folk studies, and is also currently consulting as an exhibit developer and designer for a county historical society. Continuing her education with participation in and presentations to several national, regional, and state tourism, preservation, museum, and history conferences and workshops, Pratt was recently one of 18 people chosen to attend the Seminar for Historical Administration at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, in November. She has also traveled extensively throughout Europe and especially Scandinavia, exploring her interests in the Scandinavian culture. Memberships include the American Folklore Society, American Association of Museums, American Association for State and Local History, Association for Living Historical Farms and Agricultural Museums, National Association for Interpretation, and National Association of Museum Exhibitors. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, collecting antique tea pots, container gardening, cross country skiing, spoiling her newphew, and spending time with her cocker spaniel, Buffy. |
